About PB in Merced County District 2

Participatory Budgeting is a process in which residents get to directly decide how to spend a portion of the public budget. Merced County District 2 (MCD2) is the first county in the nation where PB is being implemented at the county level.

In July 2017, a volunteer Steering Committee came together to design the process for MCD2. They named our local project "The People's Budget".

Supervisor Lor and community volunteers, along with members of the Steering Committee, went out into District 2 throughout October and November, gathering ideas from residents, organizations and partners.

A different group of volunteers called Budget Delegates, came together from January 2018 to March 2018. They analyzed the ideas and developed proposals. The top ten proposals were put on a ballot where residents of MCD2 who are 16 years or older selected their top four proposals.

The People's Budget was open for voting from April 18th to May 5th.

The top four projects selected by residents of MCD2 were announced on May 23, 2018.

The second cycle of the People's Budget will launch this month with the Information Session on June 27.
